To all WKF National Federations, 

In the past hours completely unforeseen circumstances have occurred, making it necessary for the Chilean Authorities to take extraordinary safety measures in order to re-establish public order and guarantee the safety of all citizens.

The National Karate Federation of Chile, as the event organizer of the World Championships has been coordinating in the past months a multi-sector working group with the Regional Government. In this frame, all Regional law enforcement bodies were summoned in order to prepare and guarantee the necessary safety measures for the proper development of the event, in line with the regular and general procedures for such an event.

Due to the above, we have been able to establish a direct contact with the Regional police headquarters and we have adopted all recommendations received by the contingency currently concerning the city. The Chief of Police of the Region has guaranteed the normal development of the Championships. The recommendation give is to use the official championships transport for transfers to the venue “Polideportivo del Estadio Nacional”, as the transport and routes will be protected.

Finally, this eventuality WILL NOT AFFECT THE ORGANIZATION OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN COORDINATED AND PUT IN PLACE IN TERMS OF SAFETY, ACCORDING TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES. We hereby ask you to follow the instructions received by the organization.

We would like to use this opportunity to let you know that the city of Santiago de Chile is today calm and order has been re-established. Along the coming days, those services that will have been affected by the particular circumstances will have been restored.
